A Secret Mission
The continuing adventures of Cisco, GS Dakotas Secret Mission
Gaylan’s Field Seminar and Reunion
Cisco was lucky enough to get to hang out with a bunch of Gaylan’s dogs this weekend and do some field training.
Friday he did a walking singles drill on land. We found he has some issues with transitioning with cover and when the throw is beyond the gunner. This drill had him alternating with another dog so he got to run one and then watch one being run by another dog before he got to go again. This was really good for him as he needs to learn patience.
For water, he got to see his first re-entry. He swam out, got on the land and re-entered the water. The bird boy threw probably about a dozen bumpers but he did it, he did try cheating coming back on land on the far side and he may have even returned without the bumper, but not bad for probably one of the longest marks he’s had.
Saturday, he did the x-drill and did pretty well. He always hunts for the bumper and always brought it back but there was a lot of searching in some cases. He also tumbled head over heels coming back with one, but he just kept on coming. I really don’t remember what he did for water on Saturday. I think he was in the stick pond also, but I don’t remember.
Sunday he did a water swim to a mark on land. He needed extra encouragement in order to go out, but ultimately did return each time with the bumper.
I think he’s really enjoying himself.
